Sophocles
Arvanitis (1980) completed his studies at the Royal Conservatory in The
Hague, at the Institute of
Sonology
with teachers Paul Berg, Kees Tazelaar, Raviv Ganchrow, Johan van Kreij,
Joel Ryan, Peter Pabon, Justin Bennett and Frank Baldé. He used to be a
student in the department of Music Technology & Acoustics, ATEI (highest
technological, educational institute) of Crete, Rethymno where he focused on
the studies of soundscape analysis and composition with Katerina Tzedaki,
sound synthesis with Taxiarchis Diamantopoulos and Nikolas Valsamakis and
composition of electroacoustic music with the composers Panayiotis Kokoras
and Theodoros Lotis. In 2007, as he moved in the institute of sonology,
where he attended the one year sonology course, he left uncompleted his
studies in the department of Music Technology & Acoustics, ATEI (highest
technological, educational institute) of Crete, Rethymno and he completed
his studies in sonology, where he focused on the composition of
electroacoustic music. He has attended seminars with the composer Jonty
Harrison on three dimensional reproduction and diffusion of sound, with
Carla Scaletti and Kurt Hebel on Kyma. His music has selected on 31st, 33rd
and 34th international competition of electroacoustic music and sonic arts,
Bourges, France. He has participated in the Synthese festival 2007 Bourges,
France. His music has been broadcasted by the EBU. He is a member of HELMCA
(Hellenic Electroacoustic Music Composers Association,
www.essim.gr).
Sophocles Arvanitis is currently following the two-year Masters study at the
Institute of Sonology.
